It provides many opportunities to expand your knowledge and experiences, shape your expressivity, and heighten your understanding and awareness of media, its powerful traditions, and its exciting future.

The section blends communication skills, creativity, critical thinking, and new technologies to help students learn how to navigate a world that has evolved beyond the traditional media industry.

The section offers an opportunity to students to get hands-on experience in a very stimulating learning environment. This includes a student-run FM radio station (Egerton Radio) traditional and digital photography facilities, and more. We offer internships/attachments to media students from any journalism training institution in Kenya and beyond.

About Egerton Radio:

Egerton Radio (101.7 FM) was launched in June 2012 as a training radio for students taking Communication and Media studies at the University. Apart from being a branding tool for the University, the radio was inspired by the desire to sensitize locals on cohesion and harmonious living following the post-election violence period of 2007/08.

The radio’s frequency is heard at the Njoro campus where its mast is hoisted (although it broadcasts at the NCCC). It is also heard in the neighbouring areas such as at the Njoro, Njokerio, Ng’ondu villages and at the University main gate. It is also heard in some parts of Nakuru Town such asShabaab and Kaptembwa estates.

Through its live stream on the University website www.egerton.ac.ke/radio. It is also available on the following digital platforms: Radio Garden: https://radio.garden/listen/egerton-radio-101-7-fm/He2UE4mg, Zeno Radio on Listen to EGERTON RADIO 101.7FM | Zeno.FM, as well as on stream-152.zeno.fm/7cr1m5wd408uv?zs=GspF77TXT3C0WOtHLwbTeQ. It is thus heard anywhere in the world, any time.
